Audio Tips

We all love getting new cameras, lenses & gimbals but we also need to pay attention to good audio.

Most of the time when the sound recordist shows up on shoot, they are usually surprised that I have the same mic they usually use…a Sennheiser MKH 416.

I also own 2 sets of lav mics to make sure I can cover actors or multiple people during an interview piece.

As you can see in the picture above…I label the lav mics.

I know its easy enough to know where the transmitter & receiver go, but I find having them labelled is faster to get set up without any easy mistakes that can be made when you are tired on shoots.

In this Interview below I go over some tips of what mic might be best to get for your first purchase:

Now if you are a vlogger, you will want a shotgun mic.

Weddings you will need some lav mics & a shotgun mic.

It really all depends on your clients

Once you spend good on audio, it never changes so its money well spent.

I’ve had the same mic set up since I started.

Only thing I don’t own anymore is ZOOM recorders

It’s not that they are crap, as they are very good and very handy….especially if you own any small Sony camera that has no headphone jack to monitor audio, haha.

So if you own any camera like that, I recommend the Zoom H1 or Zoom H4N to record and monitor audio separately.

As mentioned in the video interview above, syncing up isn’t that tricky manually

or using Pluraleyes or Davinci Resolve.

I hope that helps some people out
